VOGUE

Vogueing is characterized by modelling poses and specific angular and stiff movements and placements in the arms and legs. The origin of this dance style is from prison, and as its name suggests, it has received inspiration from fashion magazines, including Vogue. Vogueing became popular in the underground gay community and reached the wider public in the late 80’s. To get a better sense of the style, you can watch Archie Burnett, Benny Ninja or Aus Ninja. For information on the history and nature of vogueing watch “Paris is Burning” and “How Do I Look”.
